20,000 pounds of chewy, gooey cookies are baked at Matt's cookie factory in Wheeling, Illinois each day.
Cookie Specialties Inc. was founded by Grant Pierce in 1980. Grant named the cookies after his oldest son, Matt. The only thing the Pierces set out to do was bake a delicious cookie that people could afford. He didn't think the product would find its way to chains in cities from Cleveland to Boston, but it has.
Matt prides himself on having cookies that bend, but don't break. Softer cookies drove everyone into the cookie aisles as Matt's Cookies gained popularity in the early 80's, and by 1986, 8 out of every 10 stores in Illinois, Wisconson and St. Louis sold Matt's Cookies.
To control freshness, and to keep prices low, Matt eliminates "Middlemen". He deals directly with the stores. The entire Pierce Family works hard, every day, to live up to the reputation of "THE Homemade Style Store-Bought Cookies".
